What Is VBA?
The acronym VBA stands for Visual Basic for Applications. This is
essentially an offshoot of the Visual Basic computer language that Microsoft
created way back in the '90s, allowing Microsoft programs to communicate with
each other based on events or actions within those programs. This
language is used in Office programs like Excel and PowerPoint and in programs
like NotePad and Paint. Since Microsoft created this language to go along
with its own applications, it is very user intuitive.
Why should I care about learning it?
"I didn't realize Excel could do that" is a regular comment I hear
during Excel training, and training is a great method to learn what Excel can
accomplish (beyond what we are currently using in our work environments).
Excel VBA has always been a bit of a mystery to me, and why should I add it to
my list of Excel talents if I don't know what it is? This is a very basic Excel
VBA tutorial.
What is the purpose of Excel VBA?
VBA is a programming language for Excel that allows you to program jobs and
actions as well as add new functions to Excel spreadsheets that are tailored to
your specific needs. VBA is helpful for automating operations and saving time
by repeating previously programmed actions. As a result, you won't have to
start from the beginning every time.
If you're an intermediate user, for example, you can utilize macros instead of
VBA. Understanding and using VBA, on the other hand, allows you to set up Excel
to respond to commands that are too sophisticated to be put in a macro. In this
case, VBA is best suited to Excel's more skilled users.
VBA's applications in the workplace
For those who know how to use VBA, it can make things easier for those of us
who are still learning.
Automating procedures – for example, a monthly summary report can be set up in
VBA – so that you can push a button and the report is generated (complete with
all the necessary activities).
Speeding up work by automating repetitive operations with VBA macros - if you
find yourself repeating the same action across multiple Excel workbooks,
consider how VBA can save you much time by automating the action.
Customize Excel so that it can be used by everybody in the company. If you're
new to VBA, like me, it's a breath of fresh air to have someone set up commands
and functions, so I can get on with my work. Whether a staff member uses Excel
frequently or occasionally, VBA is essential for everyone in the organization
to speed up work and eliminate inaccuracies.
In this assignment, we will be learning VBA in Excel by creating the Cave Game.
This project will teach you a great deal about the subjects we have learned up
to this point in the course, formatting, formulas, charts, and many other
subjects we covered in the course. After completing this assignment, you will
have a better grasp of the possibilities presented Excel and VBA.
The preperation section provides you with the elements needed to complete the requirements.
